DIK Book Review for August...My Fair Captain

My Fair Captain
J.L.Langley
Samhain Publishing
307 pgs.
Futuristic Romance

This book was my first M/M romance.  It's not porn, sex for sex's sake with a few words in between sex acts.  It is a romance; it's just that the romance is between two men.  Now I understand men's fascination with women, bikinis and either jell-o or chocolate pudding!

My Fair Captain start out as any good romance book would, with a duel of honor that ends badly. One young man dies and one young man runs away.  All because of a woman who lies and a man who will not betray his male lover.

Jump 20 years into the future.  You have a hot starship captain; move over Captain Kirk, Captain Nathaniel Hawkins of the Intergalactic Navy, at your service. Yes, he's the young man who ran away. He's going undercover with his adopted son, to find out who stole a shipment of arms and instead finds love.  The story takes place on Regelance; a Regency based society, and is best described by one the characters.

"Did I forget to mention that Regelance is a very patriarchal society?  So much so, in fact, that their      aristocracy makes certain their offspring, especially their heirs, are male and genetically altered to have a preference for the same sex."

The characters are well developed and it is easy to get involved with the mystery of the missing arms as well as the heat that is developing between Nate Hawkins and Prince Aiden Townsend.  The ups and downs of two people getting to know one another while their hormones are puling and pushing them around can be quite funny.   Romance is not limited to a M/F tangle.  Langley has a great sense of humor and the ability to get the reader involved in the romance and the mystery.

Since Prince Aiden has 4 brothers and Hawkins has an adopted son who was born on Regelance, there is plenty of erotic action and mystery involving the Intergalactic Navy to guarantee many more great books to come.

I recommend My Fair Captain and award it 5 WOOTS!!! it's a re-read keeper for me.  Hope it will be for you too.

  1. This is one of my favorite m/m's. One of the first few I read in the genre and I've re-read it several times. Aiden and Nate are so wonderful together. *sigh* good stuff. :)

  2. I agree with Tracy. MFC remains one of my favourite m/m reads and has one of the most erotic scenes (when Aiden is hiding in the bedroom) that I've read in any m/m book.
